Found that this did occur only after adding in another person's calendar in an overlay, AND the person incorrectly added a personal email address instead our Notes domain address.
The user was able to successfully open her calendar on a fresh install of 8.5.2 w/ FP1. (Previous attempts were upgraded clients starting from 8.5.0). Once she was in her calendar in 8.5.2, she was then able to open her calendar in our production 8.5.1 client. We then removed the calendar overlay and recreated it.
